Fellowship with Men
2001 11" x 14" Acrylic & Paperclay mask on canvas
The title, "Fellowship with Men," comes from the I Ching. This 13th hexagram shows actions of men, whether in the open or hidden; actions taken without self interest or egoistic purposes, dealings of men with narrow or clannish relationships, and the superior individual who is able to unite “the wills of all under heaven,” with the ultimate goal being the ideal of universal brotherhood. The painting is actually a prayer for all of us when the actions of inferior self-serving men across the board, create disastrous situations for all of us. The quarter moons flying through the air represent the souls of individuals, whose lives have been cut short, causing even the rose to turn blue in mourning.
